Source hierarchy
We prefer object records, museum and conservation essays, official studio documentation, academic publications and current occupational guidance. Secondary commentary can orient research but should not be the only support for a contested claim.
Observation is not attribution
Shape, color or ornament can be described from an image. They cannot by themselves establish maker, date, alloy, origin, ritual use or historical meaning. Unknown information remains labeled unknown.
Process language
A general process article identifies variants and limits. It does not present one workshop’s sequence as universal or turn a descriptive overview into operating instructions. Safety-sensitive passages link to authoritative guidance.
Visual evidence
Original editorial illustrations are labeled as illustrations. Studio profiles use official links and do not borrow photographs without documented permission. Image metadata includes creator, source and rights status.
